Get an Extraction Without the Worries

Toothaches can be a nuisance – it disrupts your sleep, focus, and overall well-being. While some toothaches can respond to treatment, others are caused by a deeper problem like a deeply infected or damaged tooth. If this is the case, a tooth extraction might be the only way to alleviate your pain (and prevent further complications.)

Worried about possible pain?

Extractions can actually help you get out of pain by removing the damaged tooth! Extractions themselves only cause minimal discomfort thanks to anesthesia, but some soreness can still be expected afterward. However, we prioritize your comfort over everything else! Dr. Kirk will prescribe medication to help you manage any at-home discomfort.

Worried about gaps in your smile?

After having a tooth extracted, you might be left with a visible gap. Luckily, we offer plenty of restorative solutions to maintain the aesthetic and functionality of your smile. Dr. Kirk will discuss all your options during your consultation.

Worried about the aftercare?

You’ll need to stick to a soft food diet for a while after your extraction. However, you can gradually return to your normal diet as your extraction starts to heal. Dr. Kirk will give you more specific instructions about restrictions to follow after your procedure.

When You Might Need an Extraction

  • Severe tooth decay that reaches your inner tooth.
  • A tooth that’s unable to erupt through the gumline.
  • A severely cracked or fractured tooth with pulp damage.
  • You have advanced gum disease that has loosened your teeth.
  • Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth.

The Extraction Process

During your consultation, Dr. Kirk will examine your tooth, discuss your concerns, and determine if extraction is the best course of action. X-rays might be taken to assess the tooth’s root structure and surrounding bone. We offer local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth. She will then loosen your tooth using specialized instruments and carefully extract it before cleaning the extraction site and stitching the gum tissue closed to promote healing.

Keeping Up With Aftercare

  • You’ll likely experience some soreness after the anesthesia wears off. Take the prescribed pain medication as directed by your dentist. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen might also be helpful.
  • It’s common to experience swelling around the extraction site. To reduce inflammation, apply an ice pack to the area for 20-minute intervals, with breaks in between.
  • Minor bleeding is normal for the first 24 hours. Avoid strenuous activity and use gentle pressure when applying gauze to the extraction site.
  • Stick to soft, cool foods for the first few days after the extraction. Gradually reintroduce solid foods as you feel comfortable.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene except for directly brushing the extraction site. Gently rinse your mouth with salt water several times a day to aid healing.
