Is Your Smile Holding You Back?

Over time, tooth loss can lead to bone loss in the jaw. Bone grafting helps to rebuild this lost bone, providing a stable foundation for future dental work, such as implants and other restorative treatments.

  • Implant Placement: If you don’t have enough bone to support dental implants, bone grafting can be done to build up your jawbone for successful implant placement.
  • Periodontal Disease: Severe gum disease can lead to bone loss around your teeth. Bone grafting can help to regenerate lost bone and prevent further tooth loss.
  • Tooth Extraction: After having a tooth extracted, your jawbone can begin to deteriorate. Bone grafting helps prevent bone loss and maintain the structure of your jawbone.
  • Bone Defects: If you’re born with any jawbone abnormalities, you can have bone grafting done to correct your jaw.
  • Facial Trauma: Bone grafting can be used to repair jawbone fractures or other defects caused by accidents or injuries.

The Bone Grafting Procedure

  1. Your grafting procedure will begin with a thorough examination by Dr. Kirk to assess your oral health and confirm whether grafting will be the best treatment plan for your specific needs.
  2. Once we have your treatment plan in place, you will visit our office for another appointment, where we will administer local anesthesia to ensure your comfort before starting the procedure.
  3. Dr. Kirk will then create a small incision in your gum tissue to access your jawbone, where the bone graft material is carefully placed. We use synthetic materials as a bone substitute to stimulate bone growth. After it has been successfully placed, she delicately closes the gum tissue with stitches.

Recovery After Bone Grafting

After your procedure, you may experience some swelling, discomfort, or bruising. If you’re experiencing pain at home, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers. In addition, it’s essential to follow Dr. Kirk’s post-operative instructions to make sure your healing goes as smoothly as possible.
